Is there other software installed on the failing systems that might interfere with USB? In case of detachable USB sticks, does the same problem occur on every machine the stick is plugged into?

In for Server 2003 I used the driver from a supplied CD, for XP and W7 I used the drivers from Windows Update. The device was a LogiLink WiFi USB stick with a RTL8187B chipset. I tried with XP SP3, Windows Server 2003 (32-bit), and Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). I tried to reproduce the problem on three different systems but completely failed.
